During August, it became known about that the six-core processors Intel gulftown will be compatible with the chipset x58. Being designed for installation in LGA1366 processor socket , the new processors have TDP as processors series core i7 900 equal to 130 W.
The first series model gulftown will become the processor core i7 980X, whose release is planned on March 2010. Processor will be released on 32-nm technology and will obtain 12 MB cache in the third level. It will support Hyper threading, and QPI bus capacity will be 6,4 GT/s.
ASUS company declared, that 8 motherboards are already compatible with gulftown architecture . Of course a bios updates is required :
