The first controller for drives based on multilevel flash memory such as TLC (Triple-Level Cell) NAND, implemented as application-specific integrated circuit, was presented this week by OCZ Technology company. Controllers Indilinx Everest calculated for SSD up to 1 TB (per controller) and have the interface SATA 6 Gb / sec.
As advantages of Everest developer considers support of speeds up to 200 million transfers per second (MT / s) in synchronous mode. For comparison, other controllers NAND are limited to 166 MT / s. the presence of through-path transmission and protection against failures in power system, according to the manufacturer, ensure data integrity and reliability in enterprise applications.
The maximum sequential read speed is 500 MB / sec. The controller is optimized to perform write operations with small files (blocks of 8-KB) .
The heart of controller is the dual-core ARM. It is designed to interact with , DDR3 memory up to 512MB clocked at 400 MHz. The controller support SATA 6 Gb / s, 3 Gb / s and 1.5 Gb / sec. It also support NCQ TRIM and SMART.
