Intel demonstrated its development, which is known under the codename Knights Corner . This accelerator is parallel processing is performed on 22-nm process technology and will become the first commercial Intel product, based on the architecture of Many Integrated Cores (MIC). Semiconductor device includes integration of standard x86-compatible processor cores with special-purpose cores that increase the efficiency of parallel computing.
In its current form Knights Corner has 50 cores and is capable of providing up to 1 teraflops performance in double-precision operations. The most powerful accelerator specialized algorithms, which is the NVIDIA Tesla M2090, in such operations shows the result at 665 gigaflops, which is considerably lower than Intel solutions.
Clock frequency of Knights Corner core is in the range 1.0-1.2 GHz, with a performance comparable to the accelerator capabilities of supercomputer ASCI Red, which was established in 1997 and numbered 9298 processor Pentium II Xeon, occupying an area of 149 square meters.
Accelerators Knights Corner will be the base of supercomputer Stampede, which is based on the order of Texas University . Performance of the computer reach 10 petaflops (up to 15 petaflops peak). Related Products :
