Researchers from the University of North Carolina (USA) offer a new way to improve performance of computer processors. According to scientists, modern hybrid processors that combine CPU and GPU on one die, reduce energy consumption and increase the available resources efficiently.
Graphics component copes better with specialized calculations, the developers are offering in the truest sense to combine the computing resources of both blocks. In particular, it assumes the use of CPU cores for prefetching data from main memory, which can then be used by the graphics system.
According to test results, the proposed solution improves the performance of hybrid processor by an average of 21.4%. Details of the design will be revealed at an international symposium on high performance computing architectures, which will be held on 27 February.
