Business publication Forbes has published a interviews with Stephen J. Lucio (Steven J. Luczo), Seagate CEO, which shared his predictions for the further development of hard drives market .
Seagate head does not consider SSD competitors for classical hard drives. To produce a sufficient number of SSDs that can completely replace traditional hard drives, require an impressive production capacity, not to mention the huge investment. Solid-state memory is an auxiliary storage technology, it can be useful in mobile segment or in a computer enthusiast, but it can not replace hard disks. The future in this sense is for hybrid drives that combine solid state memory and magnetic plates.
The demand for cloud computing and the growing popularity of smartphones and tablets increase the disk storage requirements by 50% per year, and the capacity of hard disk drives and volumes of production grow at a modest rate.
