More than a year has passed since the devastating floods in Thailand which destructed most of the factories for the production of hard disk drives, which resulted in a significant increase in prices for this products type. Today we can say that the industry has recovered from all the devastation caused by the elements, and analysts expert confirm it.
But for ordinary consumers, the industry recovery means a return of hard drives prices to the previous level. We are primarily interested in the ratio of mechanical drives cost before the flood to their current price. The histogram below shows that only seven models of hard drives are cheaper than a year ago, while the vast majority of HDD is still expensive compared to the pre-crisis period.
We can note that the price reduction is typical for 2.5-inch size, which are used in notebook computers.
In a detailed analysis, it is clear that the peak value of HDD growth occurred in the period from late October to mid-December, prices then reluctantly headed for decline. In the spring of 2012 the movement slowed down or even stopped: the dynamics of the last six months, according to the chart, you will be ignored.
