The third largest, but-forgotten by many processor manufacturer with x86-compatible architecture is VIA company . Its market share in the relevant decisions are tiny, and manufacturer customers are usually the second-tier Chinese firms. As reports DigiTimes, VIA Technologies start translating personnel involved in work on x86-compatible solutions in the enterprise formed together with a Chinese state-owned investment company.
On the creation of a joint venture was announced in early 2014, VIA has a 20% stake in the newly-fledged company. In fact, due to the partner, the Chinese government has at its disposal license for x86 and the ability to develop appropriate solutions. VIA itself has not commented this information.
Incidentally, the transfer of licenses for x86 from VIA to a third-party company will inevitably attract Intel attention . Processor giant, however, will not be able to counteract this, as in agreement with the Commission on Fair Trade USA (FTC), concluded in 2010, Intel can not interfere with competition in the market of CPUs and chipsets. Additionally, Intel is hardly interested in the conflict with the Chinese government.
