In early December last year, the organization USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) announced that it plans to develop and submit to the mid-2014 a new type of USB-connector. The main reason for this was based on two factors. First, to transfer power to USB power up to 100 watts . Secondly, they also needed to transmit data at speeds up to 10 Gbit / s, which means an updated version of the standard USB 3.1.
Yesterday, at the opening of the spring session in 2014 IDF in Beijing, Intel first introduced the new USB-connector, which received the name of Type-C. Specifications will be finalized only towards the middle of this year. Thus, the physical dimensions of the plug Type-C are 8.3 x 2.5 mm. The new connector is smaller and more compact than the USB 3.1 Micro-B. Manufacturers of smart phones and mobile gadgets will appreciate the reduced dimensions of the new USB-connector.
The maximum current that can withstand contact group connector USB 3.1 Type-C, is 5 A (100 W), although the standard cable allows to transmit up to 3 A. As you can see, the new connector from the maximum is designed to use the new USB standard Power Delivery, including specifications necessary to charge the battery with it.
Finally, the new connector does not require selection of orientation. Related Products :
