Introduced last year, the standard USB 3.1 is capable of transferring data at a maximum speed of 10 Gbit / s to 5 Gbit / s in USB 3.0. But this still is not enough to become a viable alternative to HDMI or Thunderbolt transmission of digital content in the format of Ultra HD.
Digitimes Research Experts said , data format Ultra HD minimum channel capacity should be 12 Gb / s, while USB 3.1 maximum rate is 10 Gbit / s. Thus, to transmit a signal through the Ultra HD USB 3.1 will halve the screen refresh rate.
Digitimes Research noted that the maximum data rate interface Thunderbolt second generation is 20 Gbit / s. But the maximum bandwidth HDMI 2.0 is 18 Gbit / s. They will fully support the transmission of content Ultra HD.
