The formal announcement of the first 45 nm Intel processor is planed for today, November 12, 2007. In full accordance with previous plan , the company today released 16 Intel processor models based on 45 nm core. Fifteen of these processors have LGA 771 socket and can be used only in server systems. However, in next year Intel will offer processors Core 2 Extreme LGA 771 for systems with two processor socket.
Speaking about Yorkfield single processor, which was announced today, it is not difficult to name this model : Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (3.0 GHz). It support 1333 MHz system bus equipped with 2 x 6 MB second cache level, it has four core, TDP level no more than 130 MW. In intel price it shares the position $ 999 with two quad processor Core 2 Extreme released on 65 nm technology.
The range of presented today 45 nm server processors is much more diverse. There are Harpertown quad processors at frequencies 2.0 GHz to 3.2 GHz, and dual-core processors Wolfdale at frequencies 1.86 GHz to 3.2 GHz. Their TDP is equal to : 80 W, 120 W and 150 W. Only dual core Xeon E5205 (1.86 GHz) have TDP value not more 65 W.
Please note that some of 45 nm Xeon processor operates at 1600 MHz frequency : Incidentally, Intel today introduced new 65 nm Xeon processors LGA 775:
- Xeon 3085 (3.0 GHz) -> $ 266;
- Xeon 3075 (2.66 GHz) -> $ 188;
- Xeon 3065 (2.33 GHz) -> $ 167.
Prices for remaining processors was not changed.
We can also learn that the existing 45 nm processors are based on C0 stepping .
We have to wait for January, when the range of desktop 45 nm Intel processor will be considerably expanded.
