The pioneer of testing "robobooms" on US roads is considered to be the corporation Google, which by now has all autopilot development into the company Waymo. However, now it tests on the roads of the US no more than 80 prototypes, and only is going to increase their number by another hundred pieces. In general, the remaining 27 automakers and third-party companies experiencing "robobs" in California have 89 prototypes in total. However, according to the IEEE Spectrum website, soon GM corporation will have at its disposal the largest fleet of prototypes of electric vehicles with autopilot, tested on public roads in the US.
The automaker has already begun to coordinate with the US regulatory authorities the appearance on the public roads of 300 prototypes based on Chevrolet Bolt, which will be equipped with Japanese-made Alps Electric radars that operate in the millimeter range. For each prototype, there will be 10 such radars, they will be used to measure the distance to the surrounding objects during the movement of the "robotic car". In addition, these prototypes rely on additional radar produced by Bosch, which will be located at the corners of the vehicle.
Apparently, GM prototypes will be equipped with other types of sensors. GM is now testing "robotic vehicles" in San Francisco (California), Detroit (Michigan) and Scottsdale, Arizona. Profile developments are engaged in the division of Cruise Automation, which prior to its acquisition by GM was an independent company. Recently it became known that the Californian staff of Cruise Automation in the next four years will increase by a thousand people. The American automaker is clearly determined to keep up with competitors in the development of automatic control systems for vehicles.
