China, which advanced lithographic technology is needed not only for the production of exported products, but also for the production of products consumed by the domestic market, actively develops new lithographic standards. The Chinese contract manufacturer of semi-conductor products SMIC by the end of this year plans to receive 10% of proceeds from realization of 28-nm orders. By the end of the year, SMIC plans to increase revenue by 20%, with the bulk of growth coming in the second half of the year.
Among SMIC customers receiving 28-nm products, Broadcom and Huawei (HiSlilicon) are seen. Last year, the share of SMIC in the world market of services for the production of 28-nm semiconductor products did not exceed 1%. TSMC dominated the market with 66.7% of the market, followed by GlobalFoundries with 16.1% of the market, and UMC closed the top three with 8.4% of the market. Among the varieties of 28-nm process technology offered by SMIC customers, there are versions with PolySiON and HKMG, and the latter is only being introduced in mass production.
For the production of 14-nm products SMIC is going to build a new factory in the vicinity of Shanghai, capable of processing silicon plates with a size of 300 mm. It will begin to issue a serial 14-nm product in 2018.
