The research division of HP - HP Labs - presented an interesting printing system IonTouch.  It is a compact LED or laser printer that is able to re-record information on cards in the form of electrophoretic panels.  Such cards are issued by the company E Ink in the form of the same name displays.  In normal operation, the information on the E Ink display is overwritten by the display interface.  In the case of the HP Labs complex, as you can guess from the video below, rewriting takes place using some kind of illumination of the display surface. Since the Ink Injection in E Ink capsules responds to polarity reversal, it is not impossible that HP could apply traditional laser printing to transfer the image to the E Ink laminated panel.  The E Ink panels are made of plastic, bend and do not break.  To store images on them, power is not required.  The sizes of E Ink displays for rewritable IonTouch cards are 2.5 inches diagonally, and the resolution is 300 x 300 pixels.  Supports a monochrome image with 16 levels of grayscale.  Up to 10 000 rewrites of each card with a display are allowed. The price issue for the IonTouch kit is not disclosed, but the cost of cards promises to be a penny.  More precisely, as you use, the cost of cards will decrease.  Today for such purposes - for one-time passes, for identification of personnel, for hotel guests or for attending events where visitors should be identified, cards printed in typographical way are ordered.  In terms of other volumes - this is quite expensive.  HP IonTouch rewritable cards will allow you to save considerably on this expense item and will not allow you to regularly pollute the environment due to the disposal of already unnecessary plastic or cardboard in the form of disposable cards.
