The first desktop Intel processors with the built-in graphic core had to become the dual core nehalem, known to us under the code designation havendale.
Their announcement was recently postponed to the third quarter 2009; therefore the appearance of LGA 1160 motherboard will takes place only later. Let us recall that the processors in this design concept will use dual-channel memory DDR-3, but not three-channel as bloomfield LGA 1366 processors . We already reported that Intel will integrate the processor and graphic core gradually, after beginning from the traditional multi-chip packing.

Now integrated video in Intel chipset are produced on older technical process in comparison with the central processors, and to integrate them on one crystal is impossible. For this reason havendale processors will use a multi-chip layout.

Two processor core with the divided 4mb cache volume and power control are placed on one crystal, while the graphic core , PCI express and memory controller are placed on other crystal. Even if both crystals will be released on one technical process. Furthermore, processors assembled on two crystals reduce expanse in the production - it suffices to replace only one defective crystal. Possibly, for these reason Intel will adhere the multi-chip layout for a long time .The four core processors lynnfield LGA 1160 will be monolithic, but it will not include the integrated graphic core. The PCI express controller will support two slots PCI express 16, which will allow to work with two video cards simultaneously.
