According to the existing information , the frequency potential of 45 nm shanghai processors will be limited to not more than 2.7 GHz  in this year, while during February 2009 , AMD will release processors with 2.8 GHz frequency  , such processor will have a ACP level not more than 105 W. If we considers that at 2.7 GHz frequencies the ACP level does not exceed 75 W, then already for 2.8 Ghz the the TDP value is large. Recently AMD representatives expressed their forecast relative to the speed increase in shanghai processors  - with equal frequencies (to  Barcelona ) the new processor will be 15-20% faster. The speed increase is caused by several factors: first, this growth of specific productivity (IPC), determined by architectural changes; in the second place, due to increase in the cache volume in third level from 2 to 6 mb.; thirdly, rgw passage to hyperTransport 3.0 . The fourth factor is due to the higher frequency potential. According to AMD estimations, the average speed increase value upon transfer from Barcelona to Shanghai will be equal to 35%. This increase also include the higher frequency potential. Thus, if we reduce from the hole 35% (total increase)  20% (increase at the equal frequencies), then we will obtain about 15% increase in the frequency. Four core 65 nm opteron processors  in their development reached the frequency 2.5 GHz. Is It possible to assume that increase in frequencies from the passage on 45 nm technology will allow to create four core processors with 3.0 GHz frequency. Related Products :
