Server AMD opteron (Shanghai HE) processors consume up to 13-21% less than energy, ensuring higher performance, than comparable server on Intel xeon processors . This result was made from comprehensive testing, which conducted independent consultant on computers performance (Nelson's Neal). AMD and Intel, processors used in comparison are placed in the category of models with the increased energy effectiveness.
Servers were tested on three forms of load: with intensive calculations, with intensive disk system and in the state idle time. This test was repeated with configurations using 4 and 16 GB.
On intensive calculations task opteron showed superiority by 1,0-6,3%. HDD Results test was in favor of xeon processor with from 1.1 up to 5,0% higher performance. At the same time, according to the energy consumption values, opteron in all tests appeared more energy effective, better than its competitor by up to 13,1-20,8%. When the indices of required power were calibrated according to the capacity, the advantage of pteron grew to 21,8-26,8%.
As it was already said above, servers had practically identical configurations. The only visible difference was in the clock frequency of Intel processors : 2,5 GHz , about 8% higher than the frequency of AMD processors , equal to 2,31 GHz. Furthermore, in Intel server processors were used FB-DIMM memory modules .
AMD processors system controllers are integrated in the processors. Together with DDR2 memory this allows to decrease the energy consumption. Related Products :
