Elpida memory company, which recently completed the development of DDR3 SDRAM memory chips with 4 Gbit density, reported about one more reaching in this region.
For the specialists of most important Japanese memory producer it was possible to develop DDR mobile memory RAM chips with 2 Gbit density, designed for release according to the 40 nm standards. The dimensions of crystal do not exceed 50 sq. mm.
New memory is intended for mobile devices. It is assumed that 40- nm chips with 2 Gbit density will be used in cell phones, smartphone plane-tables and other similar devices.
According to the estimation Of elpida, the use of new chips ensures the doubling of storage capacity without change in the requirements for area for the installation of components in comparison with use of 50- nm chips with 1 Gbit density. Concerning the required power, new chip consumes less than half of two chips with 1 Gbit density.
