Week already reported that on new stepping (E0) will pass not only the four core 45 nm processors xeon, but also dual core processors core 2 Duo e8500 (3.16 GHz) and Core 2 Duo e8400 (3.0 GHz). This stepping will bring some improvements in the fan speed control mechanisms and processor energy state .
According to the new intel notice , on E0 stepping will be translated the processors core 2 Quad q9550 (2.83 GHz), Xeon x3360 (2.83 GHz) and Xeon x3350 (2.66 GHz) - they all have four cores with 2 X 6 MB cache in the second level. For Core 2 Quad q9550 the marking will be updated from SLAWQ to SLB8V. Here is the list of changes :
- CPUID Value will change from 0x10676 to 0x1067A;
- Support to the processor energy consumption level indicator (PSI) Is provided;
- PECI support - technology, which allow to change the fans speed depending on temperature;
- Added support to two instructions (XSAVE/XRSTOR);
- Introduced support to ACNT2 function , which allow to determine the processor load degree ;
R0 stepping will replace the M1 stepping , which is used on 45 nm four core processor with 2 X 3 MB cache in the second level. Consequently, from M1 stepping to R0 stepping will be transferred the 45 nm dual core processors core 2 Duo e7xxx.
The updated processors indicated above will appear in the middle of July, but the mass deliveries will begin only on 14 November, 2008. The new processors engineering models are accessible from 30 May this year. Related Products :
