The research company Gartner overestimated the PC market and today published an updated forecast of the world supply volume in 2011 and 2012. The forecast takes in account only desktops and laptops.
According to analysts, the growth in supply in 2011 compared to 2010 will amount to only 3.8% . Experts estimate the annual supply of 352 million pieces. The forecast for 2012 has also been adjusted , from 12.8% to 10.9%. Shipments will reach 404 million units.
Cause of reduced growth in the second half 2011 were economic difficulties in western Europe and U.S. The situation has not improved even in the season of back to school. The current situation will also affect 2012.
According to another analyst George Shiffler , the PC market was influenced by the success of tablets. The recent HP decision to find alternative ways to develop their unit for PC production clearly shows that manufacturers are forced to either accept the new dynamics, or leave the market.
