The yesterday's Intel statement about the intentions to release the server version of wolfdale processor with 3.5 GHz frequency was not the only important news, connected with this company. The corresponding Intel division announced the beginning of SSD deliveries built according to the MLC technology .
The SSD model X25- M standard size 2.5 inches with 80 Gb volume cost $595 in parties from 1000 pieces. The declared reading speed is 250 mb/s, but the writing speed is 70 mb/s. AND this is not the most expensive version - in the fourth quarter will begin the deliveries of 160 Gb SSD. The energy consumption level under load does not exceed 0.15 W, in the quiescent conditions - 0.06 W, the time of failure composes 1.2 mln. hours. Intel also proposes X 18- M smaller standard size 1.8 inches with 80 Gb volume.
As showed the first test, X25- M ensures a higher operation speed in comparison with other SSD with SLC memory.
During the next 90 days Intel promises to begin the deliveries of X25- E, which will be built according to SLC technology , and they will ensure a higher operation speed with higher price. The volume of these SSD will be equal to 32 or 64 Gb, depending on model. All Intel SSD are equipped with serial ATA interface , they are supplied only for OEM- market.
