This week we already had the capability to estimate the performance of Intel X25- E SSD. Those SSD are faster than classical hard disks. We note that those SSD are intended for the servers market, where the disk speed is very important. According to this index SSD exceed HDD by ten and hundreds of times. In this case it is worthwhile to focus attention on this graph, where they measured the number of reading operations per second: Thus, Micron technology developers achieved a performance level considerably exceeding Intel X25- E . SSD from Micron use 32 channels in order to reach 800 Mb per second, which correspond to the same 25 Mbytes per second per channel. Micron SSD use the interface PCI-Express 4x, instead of SATA, which ensures the maximum capacity 1000 Mbytes per second, with the use of all four lines.Furthermore, this solution is completely justified since SATA is limited to 300 MB/s. In this photograph two prototype are installed, it is possible to note that both are equipped with additional power. Obviously, 75 watts from the PCI-Express are insufficient. Actually, each disk uses a active cooling, which consists on two fans, which cool the pair of sixteen-channel controllers . In the following photograph, the dimensions of Micron SSD are demonstrated.
