The last October flooding in Thailand has caused significant damage to the industry for the production of hard disk drives and components for them.
This does not prevent manufacturers to develop new technologies to increase the recording density of information on the magnetic plate. Seagate company has issued a statement on the achievement of the recording density of one terabit per square inch - 55% higher than in the current most capacious hard drives. The company claims that in this decade, the maximum amount of hard drive size 3.5 " will double to 6 TB, and in the next ten years it could reach 60 terabytes. In class 2.5" hard drive will increase the maximum amount of up to 2 TB and 20 TB, respectively.
Seagate plan to conquer the market using the technology of magnetic recording heater. Before the process of magnetic recording portion of the plate is heated by laser . The technique allows to settle rather small magnetic particles with a perpendicular orientation.
