The first models dual core 45 nm processors wolfdale ( generation penryn ) was available since March this year. Intel demonstrated even results of some tests. Recently Intel decided to announce the first 45 nm desktop processor in the present year - it will become the four core processor Core 2 Extreme.
Today on xtremeSystems pages we revealed some screen shots with test results of the engineering model wolfdale stepping A2, working at frequency 2.66 GHz. This processor have two cores, 6 mb divided cache in the second level and support 1333 MHz system bus. here is the processor :
Let us note that this processor worked without problem in the mainboard asus P5K deluxe on base of chipset intel p35 .
The author of this experiment compared the Wolfdale 2.66 GHz with processor core 2 Duo Of e6700 (2.66 GHz). Exactly , hi used Everest. Although the processor core 2 Duo e6700 works at the lower system bus frequency (1066 MHz) and it is equipped only with 4 mb cache in the second level, it was not inferior to Wolfdale in many benchmarks of this series. .
Finally , let us note a mysterious screen shot with the superPI 1M results ( 14,156 seconds ), on which the processor frequency was not indicated. It is highly improbable that wolfdale processor at frequency 2.66 GHz would possess this serious advantage over Conroe . In test CPUmark'09 the processor collected 460 points.
