Many already noted that the engineering models of penryn generation processors have the default frequency 2.33 GHz. This concerns both the 45 nm four core processors yorkfield and dual cores processors wolfdale.  According to the preliminary data, the announced in the fourth quarter this year extreme version yorkfield will operate at 3.33 GHz frequency  . Moreover, close to Intel sources assert that if necessary the frequency of 45 nm processors can be increased up to 4.0 GHz, being satisfied only by air cooling. Let us note that the best models core 2 Duo are overclocked to 4.0 GHz with a powerful air cooling and within the 65 nm technology. Associates get the engineering model of dual core 45 nm  processor wolfdale, which works at frequency 2.33 GHz. They compared its speed level with the 65 nm processor core 2 Duo e6550 (2.33 GHz), which has analogous system bus frequency 333 MHz, and characterized only by smaller cache volume in the second level - 4 mb against 6 mb. Of course processors are distinguished by the architectural level. Marking in the form 80570PJ0536M allow to understand that before us the 45 nm processor with two cores, supporting 1333 MHz system bus, which works at frequency 2.33 GHz, and has 6 mb cache in the second level. The most interesting, that the energy consumption level of wolfdale processor proved to be 28% lower than in its analog with 65 nm core conroe. Temperature was also lower by 10-12 degree Celsius . It would be desirable to hope that such indices will result in decent overclocking potential. Wolfdale is faster than Conroe by 5-10% almost in all applications, and in games, video coding and graphic applications the performance deference is even larger. For example, in Divx 6.6 Alpha with SSE4 expansions support the advantage reaches an imposing 115,63%.   Here is the overclock results of the processor wolfdale 2.33 GHz in the motherboard MSI on base of chipset intel p35. Processor was overclocked to 3.5-3.77 GHz using the default voltage . In my opinion this is an amazing result for engineering model. Related Products :
