At the end of last year IBM company promised that its 65 nm processors will work at frequencies from 5.0 to 6.0 GHz. As is known, IBM is AMD technological donor , and many developments of the first are adopted by the second. What can IBM propose as improvement in the frequency potential of 65 nm products?
As reports associate , recently scientists from IBM demonstrated the prototype of microcircuit SRAM, capable to stably operate at frequency more than 6.0 GHz. This is almost twice faster than the demonstrated by most contemporary cells memory SRAM. The microcircuit prototype was released on 65 nm technical process, which IBM and AMD use for the production of their processors.
We should note that SRAM memory is used for creating the processors cache , and it is not obstacle for clock frequencies grow. IBM demonstration does not mean that the company will succeed in the release of processors, which work at 6.0 GHz frequency . But, the technologies used for the creation of prototype and solutions can find use with the creation of the future generations processors .
