The material on the DigiTimes site is formally devoted to the misadventures of motherboard manufacturers, which in the first quarter noticeably lost in sales volumes compared to the same period last year. The same Asustek and Gigabyte shipped 3.5 million and 3.8 million cards, respectively. Even the gaming segment led manufacturers: Kaby Lake processors did not cause a significant change in demand, there were almost no new games in the first quarter, and AMD Ryzen 7 boards remained in short supply. However, now special hopes are connected with the appearance of AMD Ryzen 5 processors on the market.
As it turns out, the output of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti and lower prices for the GeForce GTX 1080 did not spur the demand for new video cards. Especially many unsold graphics cards are accumulated in China. In the second quarter, the demand for video cards may decrease in consecutive terms by 15%, unless Vega's debut at the end of the second quarter fosters interest in this type of components.
