DigiTimes indicates the possibility of reducing the volume of motherboards issue by the end of this year by 10%. Last year, around 50 million motherboards were produced worldwide. Accordingly, this year 45 million motherboards will be released .
The causes of falling demand for desktop PCs Taiwanese sources are not trivial. In their opinion, users tend to switch from desktop systems to laptops, which are smaller and cheaper. In addition, significant support for the desktop market until 2015 was provided by the demand of rural residents of China, and now this resource is depleted in connection with the approach of the market to the state of saturation.
In turn, motherboard manufacturers suffer from fluctuations in exchange rates, component deficiencies and rising prices for them. Surviving in these conditions is becoming more difficult. The output of Kaby Lake processors in January this year did not increase the demand for motherboards for the Intel platform. Sources expect that the debut of the first models of Coffee Lake in August will not perform a miracle. Moreover, even the Basin Falls platform (Intel X299), which implies the operation of the Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors, will not affect the situation. It's understandable: such systems have never occupied more than one percent of the market, and even shifting the emphasis on the gaming segment globally will not change anything.
