Four core processor kentsfield will be transferred on G0 stepping , which will improve their frequency potential and will lower their energy consumption. The deliveries of series processors core 2 Quad on base of G0 stepping will begin in the second-half of July. In 22 July , intel plan to reduce the price of new models . At the same time , on the retail market will appear the processor core 2 Extreme QX6800 (2.93 GHz). This model will show up simultaneously with passage on G0 stepping , the existing version on B3 stepping has TDP level 130 W. New stepping will bring to four core processor large reduction in the thermal characteristics.
Some explanations are available in this document (64 KB). We start from the fact that the beginning of deliveries of four core processors kentsfield G0 stepping is planned on 27 July in the present year.
Let us recall that G0 stepping processors will have the CPUID value 06FBh instead of 06F7h , and the maximum case temperature for Core 2 Quad and Xeon will rise from 62,2 degree Celsius to 73 degree Celsius - by 11 degrees. The TDP will be reduced from 105 W to 95 W . Here is the complete markings of processor core 2 Extreme QX6800:

We note that for the processor core 2 Extreme QX6800 (2.93 GHz) the change in thermal characteristics is limited to increase in the maximum case temperature by 9,7 degree Celsius. There is no data about the change in the TDP value . According to our estimation , it will be equal to previous 130 W. The processors core 2 Extreme QX6800 stepping G0 will be supplied in retail packing's with the regular cooler in the complete set.
Let us note that G0 stepping will influence the overclocking potential of four core processors . The engineering model processor core 2 Extreme QX6850 (3.0 GHz) stepping G0 succeeded to overclock to 5133 MHz using vcore 1.65 v and Freon cooling . Liquid nitrogen will demonstrate higher results. Dual core processors core 2 Duo e6850 (3.0 GHz) stepping G0 are overclocked under liquid nitrogen to the frequency 5362 MHz with vcore 1.71 v, and at this frequency they preserve the ability to execute the test super PI 1M in less than ten seconds.
