We already reported that during the present week Seagate company intends to announce the hybrid HDD momentus XT, which derives the idea of  magnetic plate and solid-state memory  association in one disk.  The HDD in this series has traditional magnetic plate, rotation speed 7200 rp/min, buffers with 32 mb volume.,  SATA-300 interface and block of rapid solid-state memory SLC with  4 Gb volume. Yesterday the hard disks Seagate momentus XT was represented officially. The controller of these HDD determines most frequently utilized data and copies them from the magnetic plate in the solid-state memory in order to accelerate access to this information. It is remarkable, that similar optimization is conducted independent of operating system or drivers. Seagate declares, that hybrid HDD is up to 80% faster than its traditional HDD. We should understand that this assertion is correct for specific tasks, which imply repeated use of same data. Software installation or the copying of large volumes will not win from the passage to hybrid disk.
