In summer 2006 seagate company presented the HDD series momentus 5400 FDE.2 with the possibility of hardware data coding using the 128- bits algorithm AES. According to some estimations, this data protection was at the price of speed reduction , approximately by 5%.
Seagate company yesterday declared about hard disks series momentus 5400 FDE.3, which increase accessible HDD capacity to 160 and 320 GB.
Moreover, during January will appear the HDD models with volume up to 500 GB. This HDD series has 5400 rp/min speed and standard size 2.5 inches, but in this case Seagate also release the HDD series momentus 7200 FDE, which combine volume up to 320 GB and rotation speed 7200 rp/min with the possibility of hardware data coding . During January their volume will be also increased to 500 GB.
Depending on version, the hard disks can use the interface SATA-150 or SATA-300 with NCQ support . The buffer volume is equal to 8 MB. for the models with rotation speed 5400 rp/min, and 16 MB for models with rotation speed 7200 rp/min.
The coding regimes for Momentus 5400 FDE.3 are divided in two forms: : enterprise mode and Bios mode. Related Products :
