A week ago, Seagate introduced the second generation of hybrid drive Momentus XT, which promises 70-percent advantage over classical HDD. The device combines magnetic plates having a capacity equal to 750 GB and 8 GB of flash memory, which is used as a cache for the most heavily used data.
During the tests associate revealed a curious trend: the advantage of Momentus XT HDD over competitor in all synthetic benchmarks is slightly, and the speed of SSD for the hybrid drive, for obvious reasons, is unattainable. However, in real problems (loading Windows, application launching, file copying, etc.), the situation is radically changed, and the results of Momentus XT are closer to solid state drives. The maximum hybrid performance is achieved after 4-8 runs.
hybrid drives may become a milestone in the transition from classical hard drives to solid state drives, combining a large capacity and relatively high performance in real conditions. Related Products :
