As we already published in previous news the 45 nm processors generation penryn can be installed in the existing motherboards on the base of chipset intel p965, which in some  contemporary motherboards worked without problems. Then appeared the data about the correspondence of power subsystems for motherboard with support to penryn processor ( requirements VRM 11 ) . some sources noted , that for compatibility with Penryn , motherboard can be subjected to small modifications. Associate with this question in CeBIT 2007 meet some motherboard producer. A large part of the interrogated producers refused to give any commentaries due to the absence of clear information, others they stated about the incompatibility of 45 nm processors with the motherboard on the base of chipset intel p965. Associate added that for the guarantee of this compatibility motherboard producer has to introduce some changes at the design level of motherboard. Products on the base of chipsets intel p35 and G33 (Bearlake) ensure compatibility with 45 nm processors originally. First, passage to the new technical process can involve changes in the processor power subsystem - simply speaking, penryn processors can have lower core voltages  , and the step of vcore change can be smaller. For the elimination of incompatibility in this direction not all motherboards will require apparatus modernization. However, the main problem lies with lowered from 1.2 v to 1.1 v vfsb ( system bus supply voltage ) . As associates explain, the memory controller of chipsets series x965 cannot work with the reduced voltage vfsb, (equal to 1.1 v). A part of motherboard on the base of chipset intel p965 will not require the release of new revisions for assuring compatibility with 45 nm processors, but some expected nuances in this question will appear.
