We already talked in previous news about the overclocking potential of the processor Pentium e2220 (2.4 GHz) ( nonexistent in retail ). This is the engineering models of dual core processors series Pentium e2xxx, which have the maximum multiplier 12x. they were released in limited print run for checking the motherboard compatibility with M0 stepping processors . With air cooling and vcore 1.55 v this processor succeeded to overclock up to 3456 MHz.
The known overclocker coolaler also propose the description of overclock experiment using this processor in the motherboard asus P5K3 deluxe and high end cooler with tower layout.
At the default voltage the processor was overclocked to 3.6 GHz, at this frequency it could pass CPU- Z validation . A increase in the vcore to 1.6 v allowed to preserve stability in benchmark at the same frequency 3.6 GHz. Finally, with vcore 1.65 v it was possible to reach the frequency 3.7 GHz, in this case the processor could complete the test superPI 1M with the result 16,703 seconds.
Certainly, this example is not so significant. In closed case even with powerful cooler not each processor series Pentium e2xxx is capable to overclock up to such frequencies. High multiplier did not help also - the system bus frequency was equal to only 411 MHz, but processor operates at frequency 3701 MHz, and for this result it was sufficient to use a 9x multiplier.
