The ability of NVIDIA chipset to effectively overclock the 45 nm Yorkfield processors was not confirmed but sources close to NVIDIA insisted that the chipsets nForce 780i SLI will fully support Yorkfield. The announcement of chipset nForce 780i SLI and nForce 780a SLI is scheduled for December this year, but the supply of motherboard based on them will be deployed only in January next year. The cost of motherboarad based on nForce 780i SLI must start from $ 200. These motherboards are already compatible with the new ESA-performance computer monitoring system.
NForce 780i SLI chipsets will propose two major innovations: support for PCI Express 2.0 and the ability to work with three video card Triple SLI. So it is completely identical to nForce 680i SLI, and the only additional chip on the motherboard is responsible for supporting those update . In XtremeSystems , the known overkloker k | ngp | n shared the results of overclock experiments using the processor Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (3.0 GHz) in some motherboard based on new chipset NVIDIA. From the photos, it is clear that we are deal with EVGA motherboard reference designs based on chipset nForce 780i SLI.
The processor and two GeForce 8800 Ultra graphics card where cooled with dry ice .Without modifications and additional cooling the reference motherboard overclocked the 45 nm processors to 460 MHz . However, the final result obtained was with the system bus 432.5 MHz.
The video card GeForce 8800 Ultra were overclocked to the frequencies 941/2432 MHz, and got 28208 points in 3DMark'06.
Note that the first place in 3DMark'06 was reached using a system based on chipset Intel X38 and two video card Radeon HD 2900 XT.
