Perturbed by AMD statements about the forthcoming removal of geode processors , the founders of OLPC organization were forced to search for the alternative processors supplier for their student notebook XO. Over long terms, these charitable computers will pass to the use of processors with the ARM- architecture, but the nearest changes in XO filling are connected with the processors and VIA chipset .
OLPC founders reported last week on this. Currently, XO notebooks are adapted for the use of VIA C 7 M processors, capable of working at frequencies from 400 MHz to 1.0 GHz. The energy consumption level in this case varies from 1.5 to 5 W. VIA VX855 Chipset will ensure support to directX 9.0 and video hardware acceleration h.264, MPEG-2/4, VC-1 and WMV9.
The performance level of XO will be influenced by the increase in the memory volume from 256MB to 1GB, and also an increase in the SSD capacity from 1 to 4GB. Optionally this notebook can be equipped with 8GB disk. The existing XO version is forced to use data compression , which takes away the precious central processor resources . Improvements are provided also at the level of sound adapter, and also wireless network access controller . The new models XO will be extended during August this year. Related Products :
