Produce chips in Japan is no longer as profitable as outside the country. Therefore, local classic manufacturers try to get rid of the respective capacities, to bring them to the mainland or repurpose for growing lettuce, for example. Fujitsu company , which in past years produced for VIA/S3 graphics and CPUs, also thinks about the optimization of the structure of individual enterprises ownership.
Reuters reports , Fujitsu managed to reach an agreement with UMC to create a joint venture that will operate in the central part of Japan by Fujitsu. Initially, the share of capital will be distributed in the ratio of 70:30 in favor of Fujitsu, but later Taiwanese contract chip maker UMC will increase its stake. It is reported that Fujitsu is not the first year is searching for investors interested in its production assets, and negotiations with the same TSMC did not produce results, and now it will be replaced by UMC rival. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
