POSTER:computer news || SONY INTRODUCED SMARTPHONE IMAGE SENSOR WITH A BUFFER OF DRAM
DATE:2017-02-09
Thanks to the efforts of Sony , smartphones will be able to get image sensors with the ability to shoot video at up to 1000 frames per second. What's important, the new CMOS image sensors companies will work with many modern signal processors, or those composed of SoC. Rate Interface Restrictions on communication company bypassed relatively simple - the new sensors received from the built-in DRAM buffer memory volume 1 Gb (125 MB).
Sony already a few years produces a relatively compact two-layer sensors. The top layer of the sensor - it photodiodes on the back-illuminated and superimposed over the photodiodes and optical filters and lenses. Previous photodiodes data are primary processing in the second sensor layer, which is represented by the logic to control the photodiodes and for primary data. Only then the image is transferred from the sensor to the signal processor (in the case of Sony sensor - a format "raw"
Bayer RAW data).
New sensors, which the company introduced at the ISSCC conference in 2017, received the third (intermediate) layer of the DRAM buffer, which at the maximum possible speed information is recorded with photocells before initial treatment. Only then the data are transferred in a format understood by the signal processor and is already leisurely transferred for further processing.
Implemented by approach solves two problems. First of all, it is the elimination of distortions in the image focal plane appearing when shooting fast-moving subjects. Shot from the sensor can not be removed all at once, as well as the reading of rows of photodiodes. Increased material removal rate data into the buffer smoothes and even eliminate these distortions, as shown in the example above two photos with different exposures.
Sony-layer image sensor allows to make static images at 30 frames per second with a resolution and an aspect ratio of 4: 3 / 19.3 megapixel, 16: 9 / 17.1 Mn. Videos can be shot at up to 240 frames per second with a resolution of 1080p and 720p or 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) at 60 frames per second. Also allowed short shooting at up to 1000 frames per second with a resolution of 1080p. Once again I emphasize that all this will be possible on smartphones.
